Eyebags can come with age or genetic factors and make one look tired. Eyebags are commonly developed due to the weakening of muscles & tissues around the eye area with age. The accumulation of fat and fluid in the spaces below the eyes causes puffy eyes. Other factors causing eyebags include lifestyle choices such as a high-salt diet, stress and lack of sleep. Depending on their severity, they can be managed with Dermal Fillers, Radiofrequency or laser ablation.
The tear trough is an anatomical indentation sitting just between the cheek and the lower eye. While considered a normal structure, this groove can deepen with age, accentuating the hollowing and lethargic appearance. Fillers can help to subtly fill the hollow region to blend the lid-cheek junction and smooth out any irregularities.
Dark eye circles – or the panda eye look – can be due to several reasons, including thin under-eye skin, visible vasculature under the skin, increased pigmentation, skin laxity and wrinkling. While dark circles under the eyes usually are not a medical problem, they can contribute to a less present and alert appearance. Management will depend on the cause of the discolouration and usually involves a combination of lasers, fillers, radio-frequency tightening and ultrasound firming.
They appear bluish/purplish due to the poor microcirculation of the blood and lymphatic system around the eye. This is especially obvious in those who experience allergic rhinitis and a stuffy nose which results in venous congestion and slow lymphatic drainage around the eyes.
As the skin is very thin around the eyes, any excess pigment will cause dark circles to be obvious. Sun exposure can also lead to the accumulation of melanin (skin pigment) around the eyes.
Due to the nature of the bone structure, the shadowing and indentation arising from deep sunken eye sockets can produce a prominent tear trough.
Filling up the tear trough with fillers is the most effective way of treating dark eye circles as other solutions like eye cream cannot solve the issue at its source.
