Laser Permanent Hair Removal

Permanent hair removal is now possible, with only a few treatments!

The Nd:YAG Laser can remove unwanted hair on all skin types, even in darker-skinned individuals. The contact cooling makes for a comfortable treatment and leads to safe and effective hair removal with no downtime.

How Does The Nd:YAG Laser Work?

This long-pulse laser selectively targets the melanin (pigment cells) in hair follicles without harming the surrounding skin. A series of treatments are needed to achieve the desired results as more hair follicles will be cleared with each treatment.

Hair growth occurs in cycles, with each hair follicle going through periods of growth, rest, and regrowth. Laser treatments can only target hairs that are in the active growth phase, so multiple treatments are needed to ensure all follicles are treated while actively growing. The number of treatments required varies depending on factors such as body site, hormone levels, and age. Typically, 3-6 treatments are needed, with intervals of 1-3 months in between. Follow-up treatments may be recommended to maintain results. Our doctors will discuss this with you prior to commencing treatment.

Is The Nd:YAG Laser Safe?

Yes. These devices have been approved by the FDA for decades and have a long track record of safety. Our doctors have experience using this device and will customise your treatment for your concerns.

Who Is A Good Candidate For The Nd:YAG Laser Treatment?

Anyone who is looking to remove unwanted hair in areas such as the upper lip, underarms or legs. Those with dark hair are ideal candidates as the laser will be able to preferentially target the hair follicles over the surrounding skin. The Nd:YAG wavelength is safe for darker skin tones as well, compared to traditional IPL machines that carry a higher risk of burns for this group of patients.

Frequently Asked Questions

You will start to see results from the first treatment, where the hair will appear patchy in the area treated. Over a number of treatments, the hair will get progressively sparse as more hair follicles are destroyed. The number of treatments required depends on the area to be treated. After the initial treatment course, some people choose to do a maintenance treatment as and when necessary. In some cases, the results will be permanent.
We recommend shaving the area a day before your laser treatment. Sun avoidance prior to treatment is also advisable to reduce risks such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation which can happen when laser is performed on tanned skin.
Downtime after laser hair removal is usually minimal. You might notice some redness and swelling around the treatment area, which should subside within a day or two. Make sure you protect the treated area from direct sun exposure to avoid potential damage to the skin.
