PICOSURE® Tattoo Removal

The Picosure laser uses pico-second 755nm technology to smash away stubborn tattoo pigments safely. Even the most challenging blue, green and purple inks, or stubborn tattoos previously treated by conventional lasers can be effectively removed with this laser. With the Picosure laser, you can save time with just half the number of treatments than traditional lasers.

Our PicoSure® Tattoo Removal Laser is designed to treat both black and coloured tattoos. This treatment is safe for all skin types with little downtime.

The World's First Picosecond Laser

The Cynosure PicoSure® laser has evolved and most manufacturers boast a picosecond laser in their armoury.

This technology allows laser pulses to be delivered to the skin in ultra-short i.e. picosecond bursts which is 100 times faster than existing nanosecond technology. This delivers a powerful photomechanical impact for faster and more effective clearance of tattoos and pigmentation and overall requires fewer treatments.

Tattoo Removal With PicoSure®

PicoSure® is a picosecond laser and the only tattoo removal laser with PressureWave technology, which works with your body to remove unwanted ink. PicoSure® delivers laser energy that specifically targets tattoo ink, resulting in the successful shattering of just the ink particles without harming the surrounding tissue.

These pulses are so rapid they cause a change in pressure that breaks ink apart into tiny dust-like particles. These tiny particles are then absorbed by the lymphatic system, a critical part of your body’s immune system, and eliminated naturally.

Over the next few weeks, the body’s scavenger cells remove pigment residues, resulting in lightening of the tattoo.

Pico vs. Nano

With its higher photo-acoustic energy, the Pico Laser breaks down pigmentation into smaller fragments compared to a Nano Laser (Q-Switched Laser). These smaller fragments are then cleared faster by the body. Plus, because of its substantially shorter pulse duration (the length of time the energy spends in your skin), the Pico Laser has less of a photo-thermal effect. This means that there is less heat generated that may adversely affect surrounding skin tissues.

WHAT SORT OF TATTOOS CAN PicoSure® REMOVE?

PicoSure® works on:

  • Multi-Coloured tattoos, including blues and greens
  • Hard-to-remove black ink
  • Stubborn, previously treated tattoos

Can Picosure® Remove All Sorts Of Tattoo Inks In The Skin?

As the leading picosecond laser, PicoSure® is able to treat all colors of tattoo ink on patients of all skin types, so it’s very likely that PicoSure® could work for you!

PicoSure® works effectively on:

  • Multi-colored tattoos, including blues and greens
  • Hard-to-remove black ink
  • Stubborn, previously treated tattoos

What Is A PressureWave™?

Picosecond pulses generate a strong photomechanical impact a.k.a PressureWave™. Each PressureWave™ occurs in picoseconds (trillionths of a second) – allowing for spot clearing of tattoo pigments with lesser treatments and lesser injury to surrounding skin. PicoSure® is also better absorbed by pigmentation hence, there is greater pigment clearance with fewer treatments required.

Is The PicoSure® Treatment Safe?

PicoSure® laser therapies are FDA-approved and PicoSure® ‘s ultra-fast pulses and specialized wavelengths work together to minimise the amount of heat that is transferred. This results in a lower risk of damage or injury to the surrounding skin. For this reason, Pico is extremely safe and can be applied to any area of the face and body. It utilises different pulses for different responses and is safe in the hands of a trained professional.

Will There Be Scarring After PicoSure® Tattoo Removal?

Earlier methods in tattoo removal involved the use of crude and painful dermabrasion, salabrasion (using coarse table salt and a moist abrasive pad), surgery and CO2 lasers, but these procedures had a much higher risk of scarring, which may have been worse than having the tattoo itself.

PicoSure® is designed with safety in mind and incidents of scarring are very rare. Tattoo removal treatments require more energy than skin revitalization and some patients may experience hypopigmentation (a lightening in skin color of the treated area).
Under our care, tattoos are removed with close to no risk of scarring. The art of laser tattoo removal is to remove the tattoo as quickly as possible, but at the same time do it safely without scarring.

How PicoSure® Works on Tattoos

Frequently Asked Questions

Picosecond Lasers can remove tattoos with up to 80 – 90% improvement in 5-6 treatments. The most dramatic improvements are usually seen in the first few laser treatments.

Results are dependent on the type of ink, the area where it is applied, the colour, the designs as well as the depth of the skin which make them unique to every individual. Hence, tattoo removal is different for every person and tattoo. Some of our patients have 50 – 70% improvement after just 1 treatment.

Laser tattoo removal is a relatively tolerable procedure. The sensation of the PicoSure® treatment is often described as a rubber band snap. An optional topical numbing cream can be applied prior to treatment. Most patients who opt for topical numbing have shared that they barely feel anything during treatment.
PicoSure® Tattoo removal and acne scar results are permanent. Skin revitalization treatment results are long-lasting, but some pigment conditions can be recurrent. Some patients find that a PicoSure® Focus treatment every six months can help prevent the accumulation of pigment and slow the appearance of wrinkles.
The downtime is usually 3 – 7 days of skin redness and mild scabbing. During this time, keep the area clean and dry, avoid direct exposure to sunlight and wear regular sun protection. Post-laser care is the difference between achieving a good result and the development of complications.
Side effects of laser procedures are generally few but may include hyperpigmentation, or an abundance of colour in the skin at the treatment site, and hypopigmentation, where the treated area lacks normal skin colour. On occasion, blisters may form on the treated area, but this goes away in less than a week. Other possible side effects include infection of the site, lack of complete pigment removal and a less than 5 per cent chance of permanent scarring (keloids, etc). The vast majority of patients report having no side effects.
