Cosmelan Peel

What Is The Cosmelan Peel?

The Cosmelan Peel is a chemical treatment targeted at lightening stubborn pigmentation, areas of hyperpigmentation and skin discoloration. This procedure can treat various types of pigmentation, including melasma, post-inflammatory pigmentation, and freckles.

What Is Pigmentation?

Pigmentation is a skin discolouration that can appear as spots or brown patches, resulting from excessive melanin (pigment) deposition in the skin, giving rise to an uneven skin tone. There are many different types of pigmentation but common ones are melasma and solar lentigos (sun spots). The cause of these types of pigmentation are multifactorial, often resulting from a combination of genetic predisposition, accumulated sun exposure, hormonal fluctuations, environmental stressors, certain medications (e.g., oral contraceptives, some antibiotics), lifestyle habits such as tobacco smoking and ageing. The overproduction of melanin stems from disruptions in cellular mechanisms, leading to an uneven distribution of pigment. Addressing this complex problem requires a comprehensive approach, as many medical-aesthetic treatments may prove resistant. Even after treatment, conditions such as melasma have a tendency to recur. To achieve enduring results and prevent recurrence, it is imperative to not only target the visible darkening caused by accumulated pigment but also address the cellular source of the condition. By curbing the overproduction of melanin at its root, the reappearance of these spots can be effectively thwarted.

Benefits Of The Cosmelan Peel

How Does The Cosmelan Peel Work?

The Cosmelan Peel works by removing existing pigmentation and reducing the activity of pigment cells, resulting in a more even complexion for longer. To prevent the recurrence of melasma and other types of hyperpigmentation, ongoing use of the No. 2 cream post-treatment is recommended.

What Is The Cosmelan Peel Treatment Like?

The Cosmelan Peel treatment consists of a 4-phase protocol for the elimination and control of spots. Here’s what you can expect:

Phase 1: Intense Depigmentation

The skin is cleansed to remove dead cells and debris, and The Cosmelan Peel is applied for intensive lightening action. The mask is left on for 4-8 hours, depending on your skin type. After the application time, the mask is removed, and a neutral cleanser is used. The treatment is followed by the application of the mesoestetic Hydra-vital factor K cream to speed up recovery.

Phases 2, 3, and 4: Depigmentation, Regulation, and Control

The second stage involves a home protocol recommended by your doctor. This includes the application of No. 2 cream, Melan recovery balm, and Melan 130 pigment control for daily use to prevent the reappearance of spots.

What Can I Expect With One Treatment Of Cosmelan Peel?

The Cosmelan Peel treatment is safe for all ethnicities and skin tones. Within a week, you will notice significant fading of skin blemishes and a brighter complexion. A month after treatment, in addition to lightening of pigmentation, we often see glowy, smoother and brighter skin.

Not Just A Peel - Cosmelan Peel

This Cosmelan Treatment goes beyond a peel. It visibly removes and attenuates facial pigmentation while regulating the overproduction of pigmentation and preventing the reappearance of spots. The treatment of pigmentation is often tricky due to the risk of recurrence. By continuing the treatment at home, No. 2 cream down-regulates our pigment cells, reducing the chance of new pigment formation and prolonging your results for longer compared to traditional chemical peels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Only 1 treatment of Cosmelan is required to see lightening of pigmentation.

Temporary redness, tightness, and/or itchiness may occur after The Cosmelan Peel treatment.

In most cases, after a Cosmelan treatment, pigmentation starts to lighten within the first week. The time it takes for pigmentation to fade varies depending on the skin tone and severity of pigmentation. The skin will start to appear shiny and healthy-looking in 2-3 weeks, and facial dark spots are typically not visible within 4-6 weeks. The results can last years or even be permanent, depending on your genetics, lifestyle and contributing factors to recurrent pigmentation. A maintenance regimen is recommended to prolong your results and reduce the risk of recurrence.

After The Cosmelan Peel treatment, it's important to follow the home treatment regimen. Failure to do so may interrupt the treatment and prevent desired results. Applying the No. 2 depigmenting cream with regulating action is crucial for controlling pigment production and preventing the reappearance of spots. Using photoprotection, such as Melan 130 pigment control, is also essential to minimize the risk of spot recurrence and protect the skin during the treatment. It is advised to avoid direct sunlight whilst undergoing this treatment. In addition, long-term sun protection will reduce the risk of recurrence after completing the treatment.
